Site of the North Baltimore Area Historical Society, a small non-profit. I redesigned and hand-coded the entire site, which involved developing a brand new architecture, creating an attractive design that fit the historical subject matter, and optimizing historical photos that have deteriorated over time.

I actively maintain this site by updating it with content provided by the society and by monitoring visitor statistics measured with Google Analytics

To showcase the work of local airbrushing artist Adelle Fant, I designed, hand-coded, and produced much of the written content on this site. It includes several JavaScript photo galleries of her work as well as information on her services and background.

After the site was launched in April 2011, the client took over responsibility for maintaining the site. Here is a copy of my original design work.

thredz.com

Thredz, an upscale clothing boutique, wanted a site to advertise products and communicate with customers. I used their existing logo and color scheme as starting points for the visual design and assisted the client with producing content and obtaining photos provided by designers whose clothing was carried by Thredz.

Sadly, Thredz closed soon after the redesigned site was launched, although the owners have permitted me to include the site in my portfolio.

Flash Tutorial
"Jump-Starting a Car Battery"

Original step-by-step flash tutorial for which I researched how to safely jump-start a battery, wrote the text, and created the animated graphics.

Experimental Web Design:
The "Corkboard" Style

In an experimental web design class at WCC, we studied Curt Cloninger's "Fresher Styles for Web Designers". I redesigned the home page of the Progressive Gardening Trade Association using Cloninger's "corkboard" style. Using stock photos, I created the graphics for this redesign and coded it in html and javascript.

Click on the photos and clippings, expand and decrease your browser, and scroll to the bottom. You should feel as if you were shuffling through an actual bulletin board or a desk full of paper.

Web Marketing Plan

Academic analysis of how foggybottomcoffee.com could develop a web marketing plan that would increase their sales and improve customer service. The plan includes using social media, an active email marketing list, and Google AdWords.

Search Engine Optimization Analysis

Academic analysis of how pathfinderstravel.net could improve its search result rankings among both local and remote users. Major recommendations were to improve the site url and html code, increase the number of inbound links, and add new tools and features.

User Testing Report

Users were tested on the the usability of mlive.com's navigation, architecture, and interactive features. The tests were conducted by creating a series of tasks for the users to complete, compiling results, analyzing results, and providing recommendations.

Elementary School Informational Posters

Posters for Thurston Elementary School explaining what can be recycled and composted at the school. The graphics, which I created in Adobe Illustrator, were required to be easily recognizable without labels so students who could not yet read could understand the poster's message.

Experimental Web Design:
The "Dot Matrix" Style

Using another style from Curt Cloninger's "Fresher Styles for Web Designers", I redesigned the home page of American Parkour using a retro style inspired by the days of amber monitors and ascii art. My design challenges the modern user to discover how to navigate (hint: use your tab key).
